Pattern Match Test
Compare two short strings and decide whether every character matches. Half of the twenty trials are identical; in the other half, exactly one character changes. The task rewards careful visual checking first, with elapsed time shown as a secondary measure, making it a useful short drill for focused comparison work.

Compare two short strings. Decide whether they match exactly. Different pairs always contain one changed character.
How to Play
- 1.Press Start to see a pair of short alphanumeric strings.
- 2.Compare every character and decide whether the strings are exactly the same.
- 3.Choose Same or Different with the buttons, or press 1 or 2 while the game is focused.
- 4.There are twenty trials: ten same pairs and ten pairs with one changed character.
- 5.Your main score is correct answers out of 20; elapsed time is secondary.

How Pattern Match works
Each of the 20 trials presents two five-character uppercase alphanumeric strings. Ten pairs are identical and ten pairs differ. A different pair has exactly one character changed, so the task is to decide whether every aligned position matches.
The alphabet uses A–H, J–N, P–Z, and 2–9. It excludes I, O, 0, and 1 to avoid those especially ambiguous glyphs. Allowed characters can still look similar, including B and 8 or Z and 2. Choose Same or Different with the buttons, or use 1 for Same and 2 for Different while the game has focus.
A worked comparison
Compare B7Z4K with 87Z4K from left to right. The first position changes from B to 8; the remaining four match, so the pair is Different. For M6Z2R and M6Z2R, all five aligned positions match, so the answer is Same.
Do not answer from the overall shape of a string. Split it into a two-character group and a three-character group, then inspect every position once. Chunking organizes the scan but does not replace the five checks.
Score and practice routine
Your score is correct answers out of 20. Elapsed seconds are shown as a secondary measure, so a fast answer does not compensate for a miss. This score describes performance on this exact string-comparison task and does not support a clinical or population interpretation.
Use one round to prioritize perfect positional checks. In the next round, keep the same method and notice whether errors come from skipped positions or visually similar characters. Compare your own accuracy first, then time under the same conditions.
